DescriptionPOLISHED FRENCH NAUTILUS ON MATRIX
The Nautilus is a cephalopod that is still around today; cruising around the oceans in spiral shells, propelled by jets of water. It is considered a living fossil, having been around since the late Triassic, and having survived the mass extinction that killed off its cousin, the Ammonite. This specimen is a polished fossil nautilus from France; the polishing shows off the nautilus' internal chambers that have now been replaced by minerals and crystals. The nautilus measures 2 x 1 ½ x 1 ½ inches and sits on a limestone matrix measuring 5 x 3 x 2 inches.
