LARGE "GEM" AMMONITE

Another specimen from the famous Bearpaw Formation, which is the major locality for producing "gem" Ammonites, this large Placenticeras meeki measures about 21 inches (53.34 cm) at its maximum diameter and about 17.5 inches (44.45 cm) when measured at its minimum. This specimen, while somewhat compressed, as most of these are, has good inflation in areas and is a subtantial example of this very sought after fossil. Featuring electric greens and fiery reds, this piece features the "gemmy" Ammolite shell nacre which characterizes these specimens. The fossil displays one area of sizeable repair near the edge of the living chamber, but, otherwise, the big shell that once inhabited the Western Interior Seaway of the Cretaceous is a rather decorative specimen offering size and color for any decor.
