Description
Ammonite Fossils on MatrixParacoroniceras lyra
Early Jurassic
Lyme Regis, Dorset, UK
Exceptionally well prepared and beautifully preserved, this striking specimen presents two massive Ammonites displayed together on their natural matrix, offering a powerful and elegant visual composition. Each retains its original shell material, exhibiting the intricate coiling and ribbed ornamentation characteristic of the species, details that have been meticulously revealed through expert preparation. Ammonites, now extinct, were marine cephalopods closely related to modern mollusks such as the nautilus of Palau. They flourished throughout the world's oceans during the Jurassic and Cretaceous Periods, their spiraling shells serving as both protection and a means of buoyancy. These ancient creatures stand among the most iconic fossils in the study of paleontology, embodying both geological beauty and evolutionary history. Presented as a natural pair, the specimen's size, balance, and state of preservation make it an exceptional display piece-equally suited for a refined interior or a museum setting.
