    Ammonite Fossil
    Coilopoceras springeri
    Baja, California, USA

Another specimen once in the George Lee collection, this large and impressive Ammonite is of a variety no longer seen on the market. The big, polished fossil features a brownish-black coloration, punctuated by a spectacular complex golden-gray suture pattern diagnostic of that category. The preserved ancient shell is protruding from a matrix of "nodular" form. The rock does exhibit some fracturing that has been repaired with glue lines that are visible. This larger example of cephalopod that lived during the reign of the Dinosaurs exemplifies decorative appeal but still serves as a highly collectible representation of this variety. Ammonites are popular for artistic form and are considered a form of perfect beauty in nature.
