Description
Ammonite FossilPerisphinctes (Kranosphinctes) sp.
Late Jurassic
Madagascar
Perisphinctes (Kranosphinctes) is a large Ammonite from the Late Jurassic of Madagascar, representing a diverse group of fast-swimming cephalopods that thrived in ancient marine environments. This exceptional specimen, measuring an impressive 21 inches (53 cm) in diameter, displays the classic planispiral coiling and pronounced ribbing characteristic of the genus, with fine structural detail that reflects both growth and environmental conditions. The shell exhibits a striking contrast of pale calcified surfaces against darker, naturally weathered areas, enhancing the visual depth of the "ribbed" ornamentation. Of considerable scale, the Ammonite commands attention as both a scientific specimen and a decorative object, its size emphasizing the grandeur of Jurassic marine life. Mounted on a custom wood and metal armature, the piece is presented as a dramatic and visually compelling display, combining natural form with a most refined presentation.
Overall Measurements: 37.01 x 23.62 x 15.35 inches (94.00 x 60.00 x 39.00 cm)
