Description

Ammonite Fossil in Matrix
Placenticeras meeki
Late Cretaceous
Bearpaw Formation
Alberta, Canada

In a somewhat atypical presentation, this classic Ammonite consists of one glorious Placenticeras meeki out of the famous Pierre Shale of South Dakota. Measuring some 8.5 inches (21.6 cm) in diameter, this fossil is quite spectacular. Revealed from a sedimentary nodule, this amazing Ammonite features an exceptional pattern of diagnostic complex suture lines. The remaining visible matrix around the fossil has been made with a cogwheel texture of chambers giving the rock weighing 21 pounds (9.5 kilograms) its unique look.
Measurements: 12.60 x 9.06 x 3.94 inches (32.00 x 23.00 x 10.00 cm)
