Bearpaw Formation
Southern Alberta, Canada
This large slab of Ammolite - which is both a fossil and a gemstone - features a myriad of hues including vibrant purple, bright blue and electric green. A section of an ancient Ammonite shell that fossilized in a specific and unusual way, this colorful example has a "stained glass" appearance over its smooth surface with an internal webbing pattern underscored by a brown underpinning of color. The piece is decorative and would make a rather unique accent piece for any décor. This specimen is relatively large and uncommon for showcasing so much of the rare purple hue. This piece really fires under light and is always changing.
