Description

Ammolite Fossil
Placenticeras sp.
Cretaceous
Bearpaw Formation
Alberta, Canada
2.97 x 2.47 x 0.30 inches (7.54 x 6.27 x 0.77 cm)

Deep violet and electric blue flashes ripple across this Ammolite, displaying the highly sought-after "dragon skin" pattern of tightly interlocking platelets. The surface reveals a mosaic of iridescent cells, each catching light at different angles to produce dynamic color play. A more compact size is balanced by the intensity and saturation of the hues, with purple tones standing out as especially desirable among collectors. Natural fracture lines form a subtle network beneath the polish, adding character without distracting from the overall display.

Estimate: $300 - up.
