Bearpaw Formation
Alberta, Canada
2.59 x 2.49 x 0.51 inches (6.57 x 6.32 x 1.29 cm)
This striking fossil Ammonite, a Placenticeras, hails from the Upper Cretaceous Bearpaw Formation of Alberta and features a brilliantly iridescent surface of natural Ammolite. Formed from the fossilized shell of an ancient cephalopod, the specimen exhibits a vivid interplay of red, green, gold, and violet. Ammolite is one of the rarest organic gemstones, found only in this part of Canada, and is celebrated for both its fascinating history but also its gem-like qualities. The fossil remnant is beautiful, and the polished surface maximizes the color potential from multiple viewing angles.
