    Description

    "Gem" Ammonite
    Placenticeras meeki
    Late Cretaceous
    Bearpaw Formation
    St. Mary's River, Alberta, Canada

A truly wow specimen if there ever was one, this explosive "Gem" Ammonite out of the famed Bearpaw Formation is awash with vibrant hues. The specimen is exceptionally bright and colorful exhibiting three primary colors associated with Ammolite - red, gold and green. This unique material is essentially found in only a single region and is both a fossil and a gemstone as the coveted variety comes from preserved shells of Ammonites that populated that ancient oceans when Dinosaurs roamed the Earth. This flatter example is highly compressed which can be consistent with the formation of these natural decorations. This specimen is without question superlative and is equally visually stunning on both sides with electric pops of color reflecting at a blinding intensity off the fossil cephalopod. The Ammonite measures nearly 8.5 inches (21.6 cm) at its maximum diameter and exhibits a glassy texture with a glossy nature over all of the "stained glass" exterior. The Canadian treasure evidences number 14732 on the single internal edge.
    Overall Measurements: 8.46 x 6.65 x 0.87 inches (21.50 x 16.90 x 2.20 cm)

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
