"Gem" Ammonite in Matrix

This "Gem" Ammonite has a most captivating golden, reddish, orangey coloration. While that might not seem accurate or possible, that really is the color of this tremendous example. A matrix piece, the vivid fossil shell is attached to a charcoal black shale that makes for a wonderful display specimen. The fossil is extremely thin with a huge surface area to size ratio, which maximizes the color that exudes from the piece. The association of fossil and matrix is something special, and this stunner is extremely impactful.
