    "Gem" Ammonite Fossil
    Placenticeras sp.
    Bearpaw Formation
    Southern Alberta, Canada

Compressed due to its fossilization between layers of shale rock, this truly spectacular "Gem" Ammonite from the famed Bearpaw Formation near Alberta, Canada, offers numerous noteworthy attributes. With incredible flashes of color including primary shades of electric green and warm gold as well as secondary hues of rare teal blue and violet purple, this example is simply stunning. A thicker outer layer over much of the slick coated surface contrasts with a thin shell remnant making up the other third or so. The huge diameter of this collectible and highly decorative specimen exceeds 20 inches (50 cm) making this both big and beautiful. The vibrant fossil is visually striking over all of both sides, especially when lit properly. This colorful material is known as Ammolite, originating from the fossilized shells of uniquely preserved Ammonites. Classified as both a fossil and gemstone, being deemed the latter since 1981 by the World Jewellery Confederation, this magical material is replete with color and immense decorative potential.
    Overall Measurements: 20.08 x 17.13 x 1.97 inches (51.00 x 43.50 x 5.00 cm)
