Description

Pterodactyl Skeleton
Pterodactylus kochi
Jurassic
Solnhofen, Germany

The Solnhofen limestone of Germany is a Lagerstätte producing numerous varieties of exceptional fossils that are prized by collectors. This pterodactyl represents the fine preservation that makes material from Solnhofen so sought after in the market. Flying reptiles are especially in demand, and this example is the type that makes collectors swoon. While there are indications the backing is not original to the reptilian fossil, the specimen is in very good condition with a virtually complete skeleton lacking only a few bones in the left wing and tail. The high quality preservation even reveals more than a dozen teeth running the length of the jaw. This eye-catching example offers a stunning look into the Jurassic past up into the sky!
