This fossil "sea scorpion" is the state fossil of New York. Out of the famous Fiddler Green Formation, this specimen is missing a paddle but is, otherwise, nicely complete and extremely large. This brownish fossil rests on a grayish matrix of sedimentary rock. The bizarre creature lived in prehistoric "brackish" waters and was a skilled predator of its time. This fossil is rustic in appearance and natural in the rock as it was found.
