DescriptionFOSSIL AMBER WITH MATING PAIR OF MIDGES
Amber, which is fossilized tree resin, often captures insects and other materail in this unique type of fossil preservation. Dating back some 45 million years to the Eocene, this scene features a pair of midges obviously connecting in this specimen of Baltic Amber. The piece also includes a large arthropod voyeur as well as various other inclusions scattered about this uniquely shaped, polished piece that measures just over 1 inch (2.54 cm) x 1 inch (2.54 cm). The specimen comes with a photo of the midge pair under subtstantial magnification.
