Eurypterid Fossil
    Eurypterus remipes
    Fiddler Green Formation

    Herkimer County, New York, USA

This specimen of the "State Fossil of New York" is an ancient sea scorpion, Eurypterus remipes, which populated brackish waters of the prehistoric ocean during the Silurian Period some 400 million years ago. This superlative example is extremely large with the monster measuring nearly 10 inches (25 cm) long. Remnants of other fossils contribute to the aquatic scene preserved on a greenish-gray block of sedimentary rock that hosts the mottled brown specimen. This was expertly prepared and presented.
    Overall Measurements: 12.20 x 7.28 x 1.28 inches (31.00 x 18.50 x 3.24 cm)

    Estimate: $2,500 - $3,500.
