This is a nicely preserved tooth of the prehistoric marine reptile Plesiosaur. Plesiosaurs were long-necked marine reptiles with four flippers that appeared in the Triassic and died out along with the dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous Period. The creatures reached quite large sizes, with some species as long as 17 meters (56 feet), and caught slow-moving prey. This is a great example of reptilian dentition from a somewhat uncommon species.
