Description

Fossil Fish & Leaf Mural
Mioplosus sp.and Knightia sp.
Eocene
Green River Formation
Wyoming, USA

This solid offering presents a "classic" inlay fossil diorama from the famous Green River Formation of Wyoming. Both flora and fauna are represented over this larger mural with a unique and rather nicely preserved leaf accompanied by a less common Mioplosus measuring 16 inches (40 cm) long, as well as another fish, a Knightia, measuring 5.5 inches (14 cm) in length. These fossils are authentic and show expert restoration. The larger fish is rich and dark with a raised vertebral column and a lot of material around the head. The smaller fish is also a saturated coloration, and the fossil leaf adds a fine contrast with a brindle pattern. The matrix features a light tan color over the sedimentary shale along with one dark brown patch at an edge offering a dimensionality and color contrast to the dramatic scene, which has been backed with wood and includes a wooden cleat for wall installation. This artistic specimen is a stunning example of a unique work of art, which is sure to add a rustic natural tone to any environment.
Overall Measurements: 34.00 x 26.00 x 2.25 inches (86.36 x 66.04 x 5.71 cm)
