    Description

    Fluorite with Calcite
Xianghuapu Mine, Linwu Co., Chenzhou, Hunan, China

This is hands down the best Fluorite in the collection, originally purchased from Steve Smale directly in a Tucson show in the early 2000s, not long after he got it in China and sent it to a lab for cleaning. It is an exceptional and classic example of the gemmy, water-clear green Fluorites that came out of the Xianghuapu Mine in the 1990s. Numerous glassy, water-clear, light mint green crystals of Fluorite are clustered aesthetically here, and the dominantly cubic crystals have slightly beveled edges for added character and elegance. The largest crystal in the group is 5 cm across. Every crystal is so clear one can see all the way through the piece. A single 1.4 cm Calcite disc is strategically placed at the top of the piece for great aesthetic effect. This superb cluster of intergrown crystals has all the hallmarks of this find: incredible green color, fantastic luster, gemminess, and fabulous, beveled edges so reminiscent of the great Berbes Fluorites. It is very aesthetic and extraordinary for the locality. It has a saturation and a quality quite unlike the remaining 99.99 percent. There is no damage, repairs, or restoration. The stunning display aesthetics make this one of the "greats" from that era of unique Chinese mineral mining.
