    Signed lower left: Scott Gentling

Scott Gentling was born in Minnesota, but came to Fort Worth as a young boy along with his twin brother, Stuart. After attending the Pennsylvania Academy of Art, the Gentling brothers came home and began painting the landscapes, people, and birds of Texas. The diverse subject matter in their works was inspired by sights from their Texas travels-the ranches of South and West Texas, the Piney Woods of East Texas, and subjects close to home in North Texas. In The Art of Stuart and Scott Gentling, Edmund P. Pillsbury, Ph.D., former director of the Kimbell Art Museum, once wrote about the brothers, "...they have taken advantage of their rich experiences and keen powers of observation to root their art in reality. At the same time they have spared no effort to transform their art into a visual metaphor for the passage of time, doing so by means of their mastery of brushwork, lighting, and design."
