    John Sloan (1871-1951) was an American printmaker, painter and illustrator well-known during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, particularly for his images of city life. In 1895, the year this advertising poster was made, he became the art editor of "Moods", an illustrated quarterly publication. Among other institutions, Sloan's works reside in the Victoria and Albert Museum and Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts collections
