    Private collection, Dallas.

Keith Haring was a contemporary Pop artist who, like his friend, Jean Michel Basquiat, initially found a successful venue for his work outside of the gallery and museum network: in graffiti. This was an important factor in influencing his well-known style of intentionally simplistic line drawings rendered in bold outline. Haring began using white chalk to draw on blank black advertising panels in the subway. Recognizing that the visual effect was so dynamic and successful, he incorporated the technique into all of his work. He reversed the black and white, using felt pens to outline drawings and paintings. Haring broke many boundaries by making difficult social commentaries using a style which was friendly and unintimidating.
