THE JEAN AND GRAHAM DEVOE WILLIFORD CHARITABLE TRUST This author of this sensitive drawing, John Ferguson Weir, belonged to an artistic family which included his father Robert Walter Weir (1803-1889), a noted history painter and art teacher at West Point Military Academy, and his brother Julian Alden Weir (1852-1919), one of the leading American Impressionists. Although he was a highly talented artist in several genres, John Weir's achievements were overshadowed by those of his father and brother. His distinguished reputation was primarily based on his accomplishments as a teacher and administrator. For many years, from 1869 to 1913, John Weir was the Director of the Yale University School of Fine Arts. He also served as a commissioner of the art exhibition at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia.

    Condition Report*:
