88 3/4 inches long (225.4 cm.) Of strigillated type, the central panel sculpted in high relief with a male figure standing with his left leg crossed over his right, the figure depicted nude but for a mantle wrapped around his legs and over his left shoulder, Pan standing to his left, a draped figure to his right with a mantle billowing behind, all on a high plinth, framed by a segmental pediment supported by spiral-fluted columns with Corinthian capitals; one corner with a muscular nude male figure striding to his left on a high plinth, an infant riding on his left shoulder, an animal below, perhaps a panther; the other corner with a female figure standing on a high plinth, her left leg crossed over her right, clad in a belted tunic with a long overfold, her mantle billowing behind, a stela to her left surmounted by a mask; each side panel sculpted in low relief, depicting a winged sphinx seated in profile, each with one foreleg extended forward; the interior and reverse roughly hewn, the remains of iron pins preserved throughout.
Acquired in Massachusetts in the 1950s.
