Ezri Tarazi
Ezri Tarazi is a leading voice in Israel's design scene. He works with equal ease on one-of-a-kind studio experiments and on high-tech products for worldwide distribution. Conservation and the reuse of materials are ongoing concerns in Tarazi's work. To make seats and backs for his Defocus armchairs, he recycled roadside banners printed in Hebrew and Arabic. For his New Baghdad table, manufactured by the Italian furniture maker Edra, he sliced lengths of extruded aluminum-a commonplace industrial material-into short sections, which he then assembled to make a tabletop resembling a map of Baghdad.
"Rather than use the material as a surface, our project enhances the material to become an object in itself," Tarazi says.

Design for a Living World asks us to think about the products we use-where they come from, how they are made and the impacts they have on our planet.
The Nature Conservancy invited ten designers to create new OBJECTS from sustainable MATERIALS sourced from the world. Wood, plants, wool and other organic materials were transformed into intriguing objects, revealing extraordinary stories about regeneration and the human connection to the Earth's lands and waters. Together, designers and consumers can reshape our material economy and help to advance a global conservation ethics by choosing sustainable materials that support, rather than deplete, endangered PLACES.
