    When this classic image of America's most popular sport was originally published as the cover for Collier's magazine, the boys were silhouetted on a white ground in keeping with the period aesthetic of the publication; the fully painted background creates a much more complete and beautifully integrated scene.

    Condition Report*: Strip lined canvas. Under UV exam, there appears to be several spots of inpaint including: Several dots and dashes in the upper left quadrant of the sky; A 1 inch area in the upper right corner; 1/2 inch dot in the tackler's forehead; a 1/4 inch dot in the tackled figures eye brow with a few spots in the head wrap; A few spots of retouching in the extreme lower right corner. Light surface dirt.
