peint, Paris, 1995, vol. 1, p. 134, no. 306, illustrated in
black and white.
Friesz painted this rugged landscape in Hauteville-Lompnes in the
Jura mountains of eastern France when he accompanied his wife to a
sanatorium there in 1919. He was inspired by the deep forests,
mountains and snowfalls in the same part of the world that had
fueled the vision of Courbet.
