A Fine Namikawa Yasuyuki Japanese Cloisonné Enamel Jar and
Cover, Meiji Period (late 19th century)
Marks: (Namikawa Yasuyuki plaque to underside)
4-3/4 inches high (12.1 cm)
The gilt copper jar and lid of rounded form with chrysanthemum
finial, lid intricately embellished with chrysanthemum motif in
fine wirework, body with conforming upper banded floral borders,
central cartouche to front depicting three-toed dragon, various
species of flowers and butterflies depicting to sides, reverse
cartouche with stylized crane in flight.
Note: Yasuyuki's (1845-1927) craftsmanship was very fine and he was
appointed as an Imperial Household artist to the Japanese emperor.
Light rubbing to gilding, slight bend to lid finial, otherwise very good condition presenting very well.
