    Vasili Golubev, Master Russian Expressionist
, Dr. Alexander Borovsky - Pushkin Group, 2003, Illustration: Plate 108

"Golubev appeared as a quiet, introverted man - estranged from the tenets and the rigid standards of the Soviet Art world. During the post war period, when Golubev received his education, art was simply dangerous. Any deviation from the mandated norm of socialist realism was considered ideologically slanted and an anti-government activity. Yet, even in the face of totalitarian oppression - he found optimism and the courage to express what was in his heart - engaging in the forbidden art form of expressionism."
    Albert Kostenevich
    Keeper of Impressionist Paintings

    St. Petersburg, Russia
