    PROVENANCE:
    Maximovich Family Collection.

    Falk was one of the predominant members of the "Jack of Diamonds" group of Russian artists in the early twentieth century. While he traveled to Paris and was much influenced by the work of Cezanne, he returned to Moscow and became a legend in the union of Russian and French art.


    Estimate: $200,000 - $240,000.

    Condition Report*:

    Original canvas with moderate paint loss due to frame abrasion along edges.  Crackelure scattered overall, areas of active cleavage throughout.  Active cleavage in upper right corner resulting in two visible losses measuring approximately 1/4-inch in diameter and 1 inch by 1/4-inch; several minute paint losses due to active cleavage throughout sky region; active cleavage resulting in visible paint losses above and to the left of the tree in the foreground ranging from minute to 2-1/2 inches in length.  Two horizontal scratches to paint layer in the upper left corner with the top one measuring approximately 3 inches in length and the lower one 2 inches in length.  Fair condition.
