    KONRAD GROB (Swiss, 1828-1904)
    Portrait of Heidi with Goat
    Oil on canvas
    44 x 32 inches (111.8 x 81.3 cm)
Signed lower left: K. Grob Munchen.

Condition Report*: Scattered craquelure throughout, most notable in upper sky region with scattered small points of flaking; three linear abrasions with paint-loss on the lower right corner; overall light surface grime; wax re-lined canvas. Specifically, the paint film is stable in the non-sky regions (lower 2/3 of canvas).  In the sky, the paint film is less stable, with some flaking in the pronounced cracks, particularly in the upper left. The canvas has been re-varnished.  There are several small paint chips in the top media layer in the flowers to the right of the goat (near right canvas edge).  In addition, there are several small paint chips along the bottom canvas edge.  Under UV examination, there are few areas of new restoration, namely a 2.5" diagonal line of in-painting at the bottom canvas edge, 1 fleck of in-painting on the goat's left hind leg, and several dots of in-painting in the upper left field.  Earlier restorations beneath the varnish include scattered in-painting in the girl's face and neck and possible strengthening in her kerchief and shirt and in the mountain region to her right (although this is difficult to interpret because of the thick varnish).  Uneven varnishing in the sky. Framed Dimensions 53 X 40.75 Inches
