    This painting was completed in 1923 in anticipation of the centenary celebration of the birth of Bedrich Smetana (1824-1884). The great Czech composer and founder of the Czech national school of music is depicted here with this friends in 1865. In the painting his second wife Bettina is seated to the right, along with his daughters Zofie, Bozena and Zdenka. Included in the notable audience is poet and writer Josef Wenzig (1807-1876), politician Karel Sladovsky (1823-1880), composer and musician Ferdinand Heller (1824-1912), Czech poet and publicist Jan Neruda (1834-1891), Antonin Dvork (1841-1904) and Leos Janacek (1854-1928).
