    Oil on canvas
    28-3/4 x 23-3/4 inches (73.0 x 60.3 cm)

    Samuel Longstreath, Berlin and subsequently London;
    Thence by descent to Robert Longstreath, Coconut Grove, FL;
    Acquired by the current owner from the Estate of Robert Longstreath.

    This subject was one which Panini and workshop explored in a number of compositional variations.

    Condition Report*:

    Paint film in good stable condition. Eighteenth-century canvas was laid down on thin wooden board with an adhesive, probably about 50 years ago, and there are two or three spots in the lower part of the composition to the left of and below the figural group where the adhesive had seeped into the paint layer of the canvas leaving stains visible under UV examination. Along the right side of the painting is another swath of adhesive seepage visible under UV examination. The painting retains it old varnish which has not been disturbed by any cleaning or restoration. The original canvas shows no evidence of being cut down since the cusping of the weave associated with the original stretching is present at the edges of the fabric. Framed dimensions 36.5 x 31.75 inches.
