    Richard Andrew - painter, teacher, and lecturer - was born in Belfast, Ireland and died in Gloucester, Mass. Andrew specialized in murals, landscapes, and portraits and was a department head at the Massachusetts School of Art in Boston. With his wife, Lucy Pew Andrew, he worked and lived mainly in Boston and Gloucester.

    Andrew studied at the Massachusetts Normal Art School in Boston, the Académie Julian in Paris, and the Beaux-Arts Institute of Design. He was a pupil of Jean Leon Jerome (1824-1904) and Jean Paul Laurens (1838-1921) in Paris and was a member of the Guild of Boston Artists and the Gloucester Society of Artists. Andrew had an impressive exhibition history, having exhibited work at the Albright Art Gallery in Buffalo, Lowell Art Association, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., St. Louis Art Museum in St. Louis, Worcester Museum of Art, Cincinnati Art Museum, and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Five of Andrew's murals are in the Hall of Valor of the Massachusetts Statehouse in Boston.
