Jessie Palmer (American, 1882-1956)
    Bluebonnet Patchwork
    Oil on canvas
    16-3/4 x 21-1/2 inches (42.5 x 54.6 cm)
    Signed lower left: J Palmer

Jessie Agnes Palmer did not start her artistic career until her 40s. She attended Carlson School of Landscape Painting in Woodstock and Broadmoor Art Academy in Colorado as well as studying under Texas artist Frank Reaugh and Martha Simkins. Palmer was a member of the Amarillo Art Association and exhibited in the Texas Wildflower Competitive in 1931 and 1932. She also helped to organize the Palo Duro Art Colony near her home town in Amarillo, Texas. The soft palette, loose handling, and gentle curved lines of Bluebonnet Patchwork shows Palmer's training under Frank Reaugh. This lovely work is a romantic impressionistic rendition of Texas hill country.
