    I. IVER ROSE (American 1899-1972)
    Innocents Abroad, c. 1930
    14in. x 11in. (sight size)
    Edition: 13/ 85
Signed lower right in pencil: I. Iver Rose 13/85

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Iver Rose attended the Art Institute of Chicago and the Cincinnati Art Academy. He began his career as a commercial artist in New York City and turned to painting in the 1930s. He had nine one-man shows at New York galleries, among them Kraushaar Galleries, where he exhibited paintings and lithographs of his primary subjects, which included clowns, children, musicians, and old Jewish patriarchs. He held studios in both New York City and in Rockport, Massachusetts, where he was a rare figural artist member of the Rockport Art Association. This depiction of dolls is a satirical version of Irving's famous early American novel, complete with overturned martini glass.
