Central Park was a favorite subject of genre painter Howard McLean, who was born in Virginia and lived and worked in New York and New Jersey where street activity became the subject of his impressionistically painted canvases. McLean was attracted to human energy wherever he found it, and relished painting with rich saturated color and lively brushwork. He was a member of the Society of Independent Artists.
