Signed and dated lower right: Ezra Winter 1919

A native of Manistee, Michigan, Ezra Winter studied at the Chicago College of Fine Arts in 1908 and 1909 before winning the American Academy in Rome scholarship in 1911. While in Europe, Winter broadened his scope by observing and exploring a combination of technical practices, concentrating on the disciplines and techniques of mural painting.

Having traveled extensively, Winter made a decision to return to the United States. He set up a studio in New York City where he produced renderings of his surroundings, of which the present work is a stellar example.

Winter was extremely successful in his lifetime. He was unanimously elected to full membership of the American National Academy in 1924 and he was an active member of the National Society of Mural Painters. Winter's works were commissioned and displayed in some of the most prominent institutions throughout New York including The Cunard Building, Rockefeller Center, the New York Cotton Exchange and Radio City Music Hall.

    Estimate: $5,000 - $7,000.
