Man on Log is a skillfully rendered example of Edward Hopper's work as a commercial illustrator, which began in 1905 and supported his early career. Although the exact publication cover or story for which this drawing was created is unknown, the work represents an important period in the artist's oeuvre. Very few of Hopper's commercial illustrations have come to auction, particularly of this large size, as most are held in museum collections.
Linear accretion and dot of stain in upper left quadrant; scattered handling marks and accretions in border beneath frame; slight paper fading between edge of image and edge of mat; otherwise very good condition; frame dimensions: 21 x 21".
