Kenneth Richard Turner (American, 20th Century)
Sam Houston Charging the San Jacinto
    Oil on canvas
    32 x 54 inches (81.3 x 137.2 cm)
Signed lower left: Kenneth Richard Turner

Born on the Fourth of July, Kenneth Turner seeks to illustrate key moments in American History. As a Texas native, he takes special pride in his Texas centric illustrations. Turner attended the University of Houston and joined the Art League of Houston in 1973. As a protégé of Lajos Markos, his artwork shows the same talent for capturing human movement and expression. Sam Houston Charging the San Jacinto tells the story of the 800 men of the Texian Army defeating Santa Anna's larger army at San Jacinto on April 21, 1836 in only 18 minutes. The following day, Santa Anna would officially surrender and pave the way for the Republic of Texas.
