Purchased from the artist by Kay Obergfel.

    Rancho Mirage, March 1986.

Art dealer, patron and collector Kay Obergfel, whom Paul Gregory married four years following Janet Gaynor's death, had represented the Santa Barbara-based painter Jack Baker for approximately a decade (c. 1975-1986) through her eponymous Palm Desert and Rancho Mirage galleries. A champion of his cheerful light-filled still lifes, landscapes and animal paintings (many featuring motifs drawn from his extensive travels), Kay Obergfel mounted exhibitions of his recent work in a wide variety of local desert venues. She hosted numerous openings and cocktail receptions for the extremely affable artist, such that his exhibitions were covered not only in the arts section of the Palm Springs newspapers but in the society columns as well. Her fondness for his paintings expressed itself in the fact that she bought several of his canvases for her own collection, which she subsequently shared with Paul Gregory.
