    This work was first rejected by the Smith-Kline Vice President since "she looked entirely too well-adjusted and unperturbed, and showed almost no sign of distress, either mental or emotional." However, by placing the headline "Her Stoic Smile has Worn a Little Thin" the advertisement was accepted.

    This lot is accompanied by photocopies of letters between Smith-Kline and the artist, discussing the commission.

    There appears to be very slight overall paper discoloration; three possible pinpoints of foxing; framed under glass. Framed Dimensions 21.5 X 18.5 Inches
