In this 2015 acrylic on canvas, Brooklyn based artist KAWS expands on his deconstructed adaptation series of legendary American cartoonist Charles M. Schulz. Accessing our collective consciousness in the form of black and white non-representational images, which are variations on small details of the iconic "Snoopy" character from Schulz's classic Peanuts series.
(Original Peanuts comic strips appeared in American and international newspapers every day from 1950 until Schulz's death in 2000, establishing his characters as significant figures in the American pop cultural vernacular.)

This composition suggestively depicts enlarged instances from the familiar renderings of Snoopy while remaining faithful to Schulz's original line work; leaving behind just enough information for us to identify the subject while underscoring the power of the repetition of imagery once introduced into our visual vocabulary.
