    EMILE APPAY (French, 1876-1935)
    A Collection of 15 World War I Watercolors and Drawings produced at the Front, 1914-16
    Dimensions of the works range from 4 x 6 inches to 6-1/2 x 9-1/2 inches
    Most are signed.
    The collection consists of 4 drawings and 11 watercolors as well as a typed sheet about the artist and two printed menu cards that originated from World War I (and probably belonged to the initial owner of this collection). Some of the locations portrayed in the images include Couvray, Aisne, Foucoucourt, and Estrees.

    Probably a gift from the artist to the American serviceman, Captain E. Eckel;
    From the collection of the current owner's aunt, Catherine Hooper Foster (died circa 1965), who was a former editor of the Knoxville News Sentinel and the Washington Post, and also one of the original women who served in the WACs during and after World War II;
    By descent in the family.
