    NOTE:
The authenticity of this work has been confirmed by Prof. Dr. Manfred Reuther. The work is registered in his archives as Nolde A - 178/2020 and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity dated June 19, 2020.

Prof. Dr. Reuther notes that this work with the lyrical evening atmosphere and two steamers belongs to a rich series of watercolors that Nolde painted in the spring of 1946 during a stay with his wife Ada, several months before her death, in the health resort town St. Peter on the North Sea coast. Both the expression and handling reflect the influence of J.M.W. Turner.
