Description

CARNIVOROUS DINOSAUR TOOTH
Spinosaur aegypticus
Cretaceous, Albian stage
Kem-Kem Basin, South of Taouz, K'Sar es Souk Province, Morocco

This fine, robust tooth is from the fearsome Spinosaur, a relatively late dinosaur that roamed across today's northern Africa 100 million years ago. Recent scientific analysis has revealed a feeding habit not dissimilar to today's crocodilians, opportunistically taking its prey on land or in water, with a comparable maxillary physiognomy and action. Few remains are found beyond their teeth, but this is an excellent specimen with a warm red-brown patina, good ridging, enamel coverage and root, and measuring 2½ inches long and just over 7/8 inches wide at the base.
