    Description

    CARNIVOROUS DINOSAUR TOOTH
    Carcharodontosaurus saharicus
    Mid-Cretaceous, Albian Age
Kem-Kem Basin, South of Taouz, K'Sar es Souk Province, Morocco

The Carcharodontosaurus was first discovered in North Africa in the 1920's, but its remains destroyed (in Munich) during WWII. Fortunately, discoveries made in the 1990's in Morocco and Niger and a superb example of its elongated skull now resides in the Chicago Field Museum. One notable aspect of the skull is that it is chock-full of these enormous curved teeth - a fearsome carnosaur indeed. The present specimen is an excellent large example, with a wonderful woody patina of red, brown and orange, shiny enamel and excellent serrations, measuring a full 4 inches along the curve and 1 3/8 x 5/8 inches at the base.
