    Description

LARGE & UNUSUAL DINOSAUR SKULL: EINIOSAURUS
    Einiosuarus procurvicornis
    Upper Cretaceous, Two Medicine Formation
    Montana, USA

A rather uncommon and certainly very unusual looking Dinosaur, Einiosaurus ("buffalo lizard") was a medium-sized, herbivorous ceratopsian from the Upper Cretaceous of Montana. This incredilble skull represents just one of a very few skulls ever found since world-renowned Paleontologist Jack Horner first unearthed the fossil of the short-frilled, centrosaurine in 1985 near Choteau in Montana.

These 75 million year old creatures look more like something out of science fiction than ancient history and could grow to an estimated body length of almost 20 feet (6 meters) and weigh as much as 2 tons. The curved horn may have been used for defense or for foraging and mating display, along with the frill.
Many of the specimens discovered are still housed in the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman near the beds where they were originally found. Specimens of Einiosuaurs procurvicornis are not commonly seen. Since many skeletons have been found together - likely the result of some singular disastrous event - these ceratopsids probably exhibited herding behavior similar to the modern-day bison or wildebeest. Einiosaurus featured a complex dental battery capable of processing even the toughest plant material.

This particular skull of Einiosaurus procurvicornis (literally meaning "with a forward-curving horn") is an excellent specimen both in terms of size and quality. The skull shows relatively little visible restoration with only some minor points on the frill which are incomplete to the edges, along with a few patches where original fossil material was missing and had to be augmented. Unfortunately, the teeth, as to be expected, especially in the lower jaw, are quite worn. Overall, the entire skull is in very good condition. The skull is reinforced with a metal apparatus that slides onto a metal column attaching it to the custom metal base. The lower jaw attaches separately to the piece. At just over 5 feet in height on its base, this Einiosaurus is suitable for display in most any space and does not require any unusual amount of room, unlike so many larger Dinosaur fossils that have been fully prepared and mounted. This authentic Dinosaur skull, mounted on a custom metal armature, can fit in most any home or office. This item speaks for itself and is sure to be the coolest acquisition any potential owner could make.
    Overall Measurements: 62 x 45 x 28 inches (157 x 114 x 71 cm)

    Estimate: $50,000 - $75,000.
