LARGE PYRITIZED AMMONITE

An exceptional example of a prized Russian ammonite, this uncommonly large specimen has been sliced in half and polished to reveal the exquisite pyritized preservation. The living chambers are demarcated by shimmering veins of silvery pyrite, and whilst some have been filled with honey-yellow calcite crystals, others have remained hollow allowing for the formation of the tiny pyrite crystals which line the inner cavities. Fascinatingly, the remains of several tiny ammonites are also discernible in the larger outer chambers. Each half of this sparkling, pyritized ammonite measures 15 x 13 inches.
