    Description

AN EXTREMELY RARE JUVENILE "DUCK-BILLED" DINOSAUR SKELETON
    Edmontosaurus annectens
    Cretaceous, Maastrichtian stage
Agee Ranch (Private lease 9/89 thru 9/99),Two Medicine Formation, Browning, Montana

This virtually complete skeleton was discovered in the spring of 1990 at the site of what was, during the late Cretaceous period of North America, an ancient riverbed. This highly articulated and extraordinary complete (approximately 90%) young dinosaur was found lying on its side in relatively close proximity to another juvenile Edmontosaurus (apparently a sibling) and a partially complete adult (apparently a parent). The bones that comprise this skeleton were found in an articulated state all within a fifteen square foot area. From their positioning at the excavation site, it is theorized that this small family was attempting to ford a river when some unknown cataclysmic event caused the waters to swell rapidly, overwhelming the trio. The extraordinary state of this dinosaur's preservation is likely the result of the large amount of sediment and silt that would have accompanied the floodwaters and covered it quickly and completely. In this scenario the fossilization process is expedited which would account for the richness of color and exquisite detail.

In the world of paleontology, juvenile dinosaur skeletons of any species are exceedingly rare and individuals that are beyond 90% complete, such as the present specimen, are almost unheard of, making this superb little Edmontosaurus an important paleontological treasure.

Edmontosaurus, a member of the Hadrosauridae family, were part of a well-known group of "duck" lizards easily recognizable by their distinctively flattened duck-like beaks. They were so numerous and traveled in such large herds, that they have been referred to as the "Cattle of the Cretaceous" and were most likely the favorite prey of Tyrannosaurus rex as evidenced by the numerous Hadrosaurus bones that have been discovered with T-rex teeth marks.

This extraordinary dinosaur is mounted on a beautifully designed minimalist base custom fitted with high quality castors for ease of mobility on any flat surface. It has been intelligently designed for easy assembly fitting together only 8 pre-mounted sections on their structural supports.

The skeleton measures 10 feet in length along the curves but occupies a space of only 8 feet in length, 5 feet 6 inches high, and 2 feet 8 inches wide...
perfectly suited for domestic and/or corporate life.
